This slapstick comedy is the purrfect introduction to Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Peter Sellers), the endearingly inept French detective whose charm is inversely proportional to his detective skills. A notorious jewel thief known only as “The Phantom” (David Niven) sets his sights on the priceless Pink Panther diamond, and Clouseau is tasked with stopping him. Hilarity ensues as Clouseau stumbles from one disaster to another, leaving a trail of bewildered colleagues and exasperated girlfriends (Claudia Cardinale) in his wake. Expect pratfalls galore, Inspector Dreyfus’ (Herbert Lom) increasingly purple face with frustration, and the downright bizarre habit Clouseau has for playing the accordion at the most inopportune moments. Just remember, with Clouseau on the case, laughter is guaranteed, but justice? Well, that’s another story entirely.
