We Lift Each Other features the North Carolina-based modern dance company Black Box Dance Theatre and their work with Asheville veterans (Brothers & Sisters Like TheseVeteran Treatment Court) in the summer of 2023, which culminated in a moving public performance at the Wortham Center.

Under the artistic direction of Michelle Pearson, the Black Box dancers travel across North Carolina, employing the art of modern dance to build community and foster resilience. Working primarily with active-duty military, veterans, and their families, the company harnesses the simple but transformative power of modern dance to create spaces for collective expression and healing.

We Lift Each Other is part of the groundbreaking new documentary anthology series, I Feel Myself To Be Part of Something, which explores the impact of the arts in America. The series takes viewers on a journey across the country, highlighting a range of art forms, communities, and programs to capture a rich and vibrant portrait of the essential role the arts play in our lives.
