Join us to celebrate the kickoff of the centennial anniversary of Raleigh's Needham B. Broughton High School. Two great bands with local ties will take the stage, beginning with The Circus at 6:30 PM and Steam Room Etiquette to follow. Doors open at 5:30 PM. This event is open to the public; all are welcome to attend. There are no age restrictions. General admission tickets are $27.50 in advance and $33 the day of the event. VIP tickets are $78.5 before May 15th and $103.50 after May 15th. VIP tickets include a centennial anniversary T-shirt and free popcorn. All proceeds will be donated to the BHS 100 organization to support centennial events, scholarships, and more. To learn more about the organization, please visit broughton1929.com. About the Bands Steamroom Etiquette is a Raleigh–based cover band known for blending just about all styles of music- from rock to ska to honky tonk to basically anything other than Mustang Sally. You will not hear Mustang Sally. They are a massive band and as such, they have toured some of the state's tiniest stages. The list includes The Rialto's friendly neighbor, Uncle Jesse's, The Tipsy Turtle in Atlantic Beach, and the infamous 5 Points super spreader on High Park's front porch. The 9 core members are in their 10th year, and have built a reputation for energetic shows, mediocre jams, a squirrelly keys player, and flat out good time. But everybody defines Steamroom Etiquette a little differently. Come see for yourself what it's all about. The Circus began in December of 2020 during the Covid lockdown as a place to give experienced musicians a place to play regularly and a chance for less experienced musicians to gain experience playing with others. Approximately 25 people have passed through this experience over the past 5 1/2 years. The band has gathered almost every week to play during that time. The first time The Circus played out in public in 2023, they overwhelmed the venue with 350 people coming out to listen and socialize. Their shows seem like a Broughton reunion at times, plus an opportunity for people of different ages to enjoy music and meet new friends. The Circus is blessed to have settled into a regular lineup of players, plus some regular guest appearances by past members and friends wanting to get on stage for a song or two. They cover a lot of genres of music, such as The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Cream, The Doobie Brothers, Chris Stapleton, Led Zeppelin, Steve Miller Band, The Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, Santana and Steely Dan. The band has members spanning their 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. The Circus is fortunate to have 2 incredible female singer sisters: Sarah Bolton Bridger and Lisa Bolton Lowrance. Both are Broughton graduates of the 1990’s (as well as both their husbands Craven and Bryan, plus their parents Winnie and Mike Bolton). Michael Dickinson is also a Broughton graduate Class of 1988. Billy Noble on vocals, Frank Watson on keys, Bill Mickle on congas/harp (wife Lindsay Cox is Broughton Class of 1988). Nick Nance and Greg Jones on lead guitars. Pier Williamson on guitar. Montie Smith on bass. Zack Robbins on drums.

Power has a price. In The Godfather Part II, the bill comes due. Moving between Michael Corleone’s tightening grip on the family empire and the early days of his father Vito’s rise from Sicilian immigrant to powerful crime boss, this sweeping sequel expands the saga in every direction. What begins as a story about family becomes something colder, lonelier, and far more dangerous. Widely considered one of the greatest sequels ever made, The Godfather Part II deepens the legacy with unforgettable performances, quiet betrayals, and the uneasy realization that power rarely comes without a cost.

Come in your best Hawaiian shirt as we celebrate one of the most enjoyable artifacts of the mid-century era: the tiki bar and its creator, Donn Beach, also known as Don the Beachcomber. But his story goes much deeper than that. He was an American maverick, constantly creating his own opportunities, reinventing himself many times over, and was well known for embellishing the details of his extraordinary life. Separating fact from exaggeration to finally tell his fascinating story: a youth spent in Jamaica, running rum during prohibition, hunting down cigars and liquor for troops in World War II, and bringing the first commercial lūau to Hawai‘i. You can watch the trailer here. The band Vibexotica will be playing Tiki bar tunes before the movie, and there will be a Q&A before the show with producer Max Well. Tiki drinks will, of course, be available for sale in the bar!

Before Instagram, before Architectural Digest spreads became a personality trait, there was Julius Shulman, the photographer who quite literally taught the world how to see modern architecture. Narrated by Dustin Hoffman, Visual Acoustics is a lively and unexpectedly charming documentary about the man behind the iconic images of mid-century modern design. Shulman’s photographs didn’t just document buildings, they helped launch the careers of architects like Richard Neutra, John Lautner, and even Frank Gehry, while turning glass-walled hillside homes into symbols of an entire California dream. Director Eric Bricker’s film is part art history, part biography, and part love letter to creativity itself, revealing how one charismatic, endlessly curious photographer reshaped public taste and made modernism feel human, glamorous, and accessible. Through interviews, archival footage, and Shulman’s unforgettable images, Visual Acoustics shows how a still photograph can create a whole lifestyle and why we’re still living in the visual world he invented. A perfect pick for architecture buffs, design nerds, photographers, and anyone who has ever fallen in love with a beautiful space.

We're teaming up with our friends at Oaks and Spokes for our annual "Bike to the Movies" night during Bike Month. This year's feature is the cycling classic Breaking Away, and as a special bonus, we'll open the show with the short film Tandem, a movie about love (and love of bikes) shot right here in Raleigh. BREAKING AWAY is a funny, heartfelt coming-of-age classic about four working-class friends in Bloomington, Indiana trying to figure out what comes next after high school. At the center is Dave, a bicycle-obsessed dreamer who idolizes Italian cyclists and hopes to race his way toward something bigger. Full of sharp humor, underdog spirit, and one unforgettable bike race, it’s a charming story about friendship, family, and finding your place. TANDEM is a short film by Triangle-based filmmaker Darryl Jones. The film is about two strangers who cross paths biking through Raleigh, and their chance encounter sparks a romance that changes them both forever. Hope you can join us for the third annual Bike to the Movies Night, hosted by Oaks and Spokes.
